Gainesville, FL
The College offers a 24-month degree program leading to a Master of Science in Dental Sciences with specialization in Endodontics (project in lieu of Thesis option), and a certificate in Endodontics.
The didactic component focuses on the biological principles that are involved in the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the pulp and periradicular tissues. The research experience enables the students to mature intellectually and make rational decisions regarding the scope of endodontics based on scientific data.
Students are required to teach, as the development of instructional skills is an integral part of graduate education.
Graduate students treat patients at the College of Dentistry’s clinics, the Gainesville VA Medical Center, and the North Florida Reception Center at Lake Butler. Students gain experience from a broad base of patient population in need of comprehensive care, retreatment, surgical, and emergency treatment.
The specific goals of the programs are to:
- Provide an in-depth knowledge of relevant biomedical sciences.
- Correlate the biomedical sciences with the etiology and pathogenesis of pulpal and periradicular disease.
- Enhance the student’s expertise in advanced non-surgical and surgical endodontic procedures.
- Prepare the students to critically evaluate the dental literature and research methodologies for the clinical application of new information.
- Generate and prepare research data for oral presentation at national endodontic and research meetings and publication in a nationally refereed dental journal.
- Prepare the student for specialty board eligibility and certification by the American Board of Endodontics.
A stipend is available. Tuition is required.
