Letters of Evaluation
Requirement for letters, Advice for applicants

UFCD Application and Enrollment Requirements:

  • Three letters or one committee letter are required.
  • Letters do not need to be written by specific professors or professionals.
  • Letter writers should submit letters via ADEA AADSAS.
  • Letters may be verified for authenticity at any time during the application cycle.

Advice for obtaining letters of evaluation:

  • Build relationships with possible letter writers early in your educational experience.
  • Do not have a family member write a letter of evaluation.
  • Obtain letters from people who know you and your attributes such as passion for dentistry, leadership skills, dependability, maturity, etc.
  • Obtain letters from people who have observed you in a professional setting.
  • Possible letter writers might be research mentors, dentists you have shadowed, advisors, employers, people of authority who are familiar with your work and character and professors who know you well.
  • Do not obtain letters from those who do not know you. For example, a letter from a high-ranking individual whom you have never met will NOT add value to your UFCD application.
  • A letter from an individual who can only report a test score or grade earned in class will not provide new information necessary to learn more about you.
  • When asking someone to write a letter, do so in a way that allows them to decline so as not to “force” a letter than may be mediocre or submitted late.
  • Provide the letter writer with a resume and personal statement for reference as they draft the letter.
  • Give your letter writers ample time with gentle reminders if necessary.
